How to turn a “Belt” into a “Mix”

There are SO many ways to help your singing students turn their “big belt” into a something a little “lighter” or more “mixy”.

Here are three of my go-to’s:

1. Decrease intra-andominal pressure. One way we can do this is by adjusting amplitude. Check the vid for details!

2. Allow more transglottal airflow, not by adding more air from the lunngs, but by un-pressing the vocal folds. Sigh through it baby!

3. Play around with a neutral or diphthonged vowel. /ɛ/ /ʌ/ /eɪ/ /aɪ/ are awesome options.

Do you have any other variations you love?

Let me know in the comments!
