Let's talk about bumblefoot and what we can do to avoid this painful and pernicious piggy problem. Avoiding moisture, bacteria, and environmental hazards is the way.

A case of bumblefoot usually means redness, swelling, and increasing pain or sensitivity in the foot pads - but here's the good news: bumblefoot is highly treatable when addressed early, and the right preventative measures can often help you and your pets avoid it all together!

Clean, dry bedding, a hazard-free home, and a healthy diet with lots of exercise are the best tools to keep your piggies safe and healthy.

Ideally, give your guinea pigs a quick daily inspection, watching for swollen foot pads, sores, limping, or sensitivity - and for the well-being of guinea pigs everywhere, let’s all agree to stop using those wire-bottom cages!

My Guinea pig has serious bumblefoot. It’s difficult to improve!

Had to deal with bumblefoot last summer thanks to a contaminated bag of bedding. It was what finally convinced me to switch completely to fleece. Thankfully all my piggies- inculding my 'bumblebees'- are now healthy and happy once more.

I finally got Guinea pigs YAY and when I saw this I instantly checked there feet and they don’t have bumble foot also I got 2 😊

There's always a wet spot that forms under my piggos water bottle (it was a non leak water bottle, I still don't know how they managed to make it leak) and my guinea pig Linny used to always lay in it because she liked it. Unfortunately it led to what I assume was bumblefoot. Fortunately, I managed to catch it before it got any worse than a red sore, and she stopped laying in the "puddle" after that.
