Article 5 of NATO does not mean that countries automatically come to the aid of that country being attacked. It only stipulates that the governments of NATO countries will take up a legislative vote and discuss the situation amongst the governments internally on whether to come to the aid of the attacked. It is not automatic that all NATO members will support article 5. Some countries government may opt out.
