Update September 17: Bearspaw South Feeder Main repairs
Показать описание
This morning, we began filling the feeder main, a process that will take three days and require 22 million litres of water to complete. Over the next few days, we will see water usage increase by about 7 million litres per day. This will not impact our potable water supply. The water for filling the pipe is coming from the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant and is over and above what is already being supplied to our water distribution system.
Once the feeder main is filled, we will perform testing to ensure the water quality meets or exceeds safety and quality standards. This step will take an additional 24 hours to complete.
Once we've confirmed the water is safe, we will move to stabilizing the system, including opening valves to reconnect the feeder main to the larger water distribution network. During this step, Calgarians may notice City workers releasing water through community fire hydrants—this is necessary to help us manage pressure and improve water quality.
After all these steps are complete, we can lift water restrictions. We remain on track to lift water restrictions sometime this weekend.

Water use
Yesterday’s water use went up slightly to 492 million litres, keeping us in the 'yellow' zone.

Thank you everyone—residents, businesses and our regional partners, for your ongoing efforts to save water. We're almost at the finish line, but until the feeder main is reconnected to the rest of the water distribution system, it's important that we keep reducing our water use.
Stage 4 Outdoor Water Restrictions are still in place, and we ask you to continue saving water indoors by following three simple steps: only flush when necessary, limit showers to three minutes and run full loads of dishes and laundry.
Your efforts make a big difference as we work toward completing the repair work.
Construction update
Our repairs continue to progress well, and we are in the final stages of construction.

While most of 16 Avenue N.W. is now open, some lane closures near 43 Street N.W. are still required to bring the feeder main back into service and complete curb work.
Traffic is flowing freely on 16 Avenue N.W., and access from 16 Avenue to local businesses has been restored. We encourage everyone to visit businesses in Bowness and Montgomery to show your support.
At Site 1, we’re preparing for asphalt paving after completing road gravelling and grading.
Concrete curb and gutter work is nearing completion at Sites 2 and 3, and we expect to reopen 33 Avenue N.W., east of 83 Street N.W., this afternoon. Minor landscaping in Shouldice Park will follow in the coming weeks.
At Site 5, at 33 Avenue N.W. and 86 Street N.W., we’re also preparing for asphalt paving and expect to reopen 33 Avenue N.W. between 83 Street and 87 Street N.W. later this week.
These final stages of construction are ongoing and won’t impact the feeder main filling or the lifting of water restrictions.
We will continue communicating with those directly affected by the construction to share our progress and plans for restoring sidewalks, driveways and landscaping that were impacted by the repairs.
