Don't think of the head as not being hidden in vehicle mode. I see it as the head becoming the 5th wheel where the trailer is supposed to attach.

I think making the legs one stud longer will make it look more realistic and make the robot mode proportions look a bit better

This is a really cool model, the details are really impressive and the unique use of different colored types of pieces makes this MOC look like what lego could do if they do Transformers Lego Sets, never the less this is pretty unique, Good job!
