In today's video, we are going to talk about Pilot Flying and Pilot Monitoring.

By the end of the video, you will understand why some aircraft need only one pilot and some need two pilots.

The Pilot Flying is the crew that flies the plane, he/she performs the take-off, landing and, any other maneuver that is required to operate the plane.

The Pilot Monitor assists the Pilot Flying during the Flight Operations by talking to the radios, change the flaps setting, and so on.

However the role of Pilot Monitoring is not simply to move switches and levers, its primary duty is to monitor the whole operations to make sure that the Pilot flying doesn't do any mistake.

The Captain decides who will be the Pilot Flying and who will be the Pilot Monitoring for the sector taking into account different factors such as, weather, airport difficulty, and so on.

So it is not true that the Captain is always Pilot Flying and the First Officer is always Pilot Monitoring.

It is important to keep on the loop the other pilot when operating on a Multi Pilot Aircraft.

You're the such of the kind people, very proud of you when you said that you will give the cadet pilot 3 sectors of PF for growing up the experience ..

I think your philosophy of letting your FO fly 3 out of 4 sectors is great. You probably turned a lot of FO's into good captains. I would fly as your FO any day.

You are a true leader when you give new pilots the chance to grow and evolve professionally.
When flying with the autopilot engaged, who controls it? The pilot monitoring or the pilot flying? I would say it's the pilot flying, but how does the radio handling work in that case? Let's say ATC vectors you and both pilots will receive the transmission, but only one will acknowledge it. If the pilot receiving the transmission is the one monitoring, does the pilot flying have to wait until the pilot monitoring confirms the instruction or can the pilot flying comply immediately since they heard the transmission and already know what to do?
