INDIAN Rupee Crashes to All Time Low

In this video I discuss the ongoing decline in the value of the Indian Rupee, which has fallen to a new all time low, and the impact on the Indian Economy. India is now the world's 5th largest economy however very few countries are prepared to trade in Indian Rupees meaning that India is forced to trade in US Dollars, Chinese Yuan and UAE Dirhams. India is a net importer and a decrease in the value of its currency causes prices to rise and the Inflation data for November shows that inflation is now starting to take off which is bad news for the Indian Economy and also the value of the Rupee.

I don't think going from 83 to 85 is a crash. That's under a 3 % change. The Mexican Peso is down 16% and the Can. dollar down 8% and nobody considers those currencies as crashing.

I am in India right now. Been here for a week. I am an American who lives in Ireland. Some things are a bit cheap here, but prices are reasonable. Petrol is about 1 euro per litre; slightly cheaper than in Ireland. "Crash" is a big exaggeration to my eyes on the ground.

It was seven rupees to the dollar when I lived there in 1986, now it is 85 rupees to the dollar, a terrible crash indeed.

I'm from India and follow the economy. In any country where inflation (and interest rates) is consistently higher then the US, the currency will keep depreciating against the Dollar. The Rupee should regularly reach 'all time lows'.

The drop in GDP growth in 2024 to 5.8% in Q3 and 7% over the year is due to a freeze in spending during national and state elections in 2024 which always happens in election years. The 2.2% drop in the rupee over the last year against the US dollar is due to the rise in the US dollar against most other currencies, and the Russians selling rupees they accumulated for oil purchases. Is a 2% drop a crash? The GBP dropped about 26% in the wake of the Btrxit vote.

India has 600+ billion in reserve and not supporting rupee value for this reason!
