Saying Goodbye to Our 14 Year Old Norwegian Elkhound – Euthanasia in Our Home

This is a video documentary of our first experience euthanizing a family pet. Recording video of this process was one of the most difficult things for me to do. Diane and I decided that is was important to share our personal experience with you to help you make your decision as to when it is time to say goodbye to your pet, and how to do it as compassionately as possible. Watching and editing two days of video clips was torturous. I was living this heart-wrenching experience repeatedly. I cannot say how many tears I shed.

This video is long. But, I felt it important to include our final hours and walks with Shadow so that you can better understand her physical and cognitive condition, quality of life and why it was time to say goodbye to a member of our family and our best friend.

I came to watch this for comfort, knowing there are other people who are going through this. We had to euthanize our little 16 year old maltese girl three days ago. After chemo her body couldn’t take it any more. I’ve been crying unconsolably ever since, like I’ve seldom cried before. She was my little girl. I hope she now is in a place with lots of cakes, ham, beaches and soft couches. She loves us, and we love her. RIP little Panna

We put down our dog of 14 years as well today. As a man, I havent cried this much in ages. The pain is unreal. She had a long and good life but eventually her body started giving out and every day started being extremely painful for her. Damn it will miss you Bella.
