Ilinka is one of the oldest streets in Moscow. Take a close look at the building on the corner on the right with multi-tiered tower and a rotunda. This is the old House of the Northern Insurance Company.
Ilinka is named after the Church of Ilya or Elijah the Prophet under the Pine. The church was destroyed in 1935 but the name remained, although it was called Kuibyshev for fifty years in Soviet times. There was another very beautiful church by the Ilinski Gates dedicated to Nikolai the Miracle Worker and called the Big Cross. This was also destroyed, and in the church’s place there is now an empty space a bit like a little square. Ilinka has always been a place of business with beautiful buildings belonging to numerous banks, the offices of large companies, and a merchants’ exchange. Today there are mainly government organisations here.

У́лица Ильи́нка (в XIV—XV веках — у́лица Дми́тровка, в 1935—1990 годах — у́лица Ку́йбышева) — улица в Центральном административном округе города Москвы, на территории Китай-города. Одна из старейших улиц Москвы. Проходит от Красной площади до площади Ильинских Ворот, лежит между Никольской улицей и Варваркой. Нумерация домов ведётся от Красной площади.
