How big can steel conduits really get?

We all know the trusty 20mm for standard cable runs, but what about when you need something bigger? In this video, we take a deep dive into Metpro’s range, from 25mm and 32mm up to the absolute unit - the 2-inch conduit! Perfect for legacy systems and serious cable management.

Used 32mm conduit but it was all straight runs or angle boxes luckily. Would not fancy bending a 2 inch conduit

US / Canada think nothing of 4” or 6” for pulling main supplies (350 / 500 MCM ) 185 / 240 singles to industrial panels

I think we did some 1 1/2” as an apprentice, late 70’s. I have a set of 3/4” dies as well, handy for old stuff, but I’ve not used them for years😊

I was made to thread a full length of 2” and cut it into nipples for giving lip in 1963 and this was with standard manual stocks and dies, no ratcheting sets like pipefitters had.For bending and setting we had a windlass type bender which was huge and weighed a ton.Installed lots of 2”, 1 1/2” and 1 1/4” before trunking became common

4" a few times, always industrial plants. Saw 6" installed in a large ductbank at a nuke, I wasn't in that crew!

50mm conduit in uk 1987 London .
Conduit today is not made to the same standard as it used to be, been using 32mm recently and it crinkles very easily?

I have worked with the 2” or 50mm conduit. It is a bitch to thread as the threading kit supplied with it wore out quicker than two threads could be cut.
Bending was a pain as I am not large build and a bending machine at the time was hard to come by.
To speed up the task the large conduit was sacked a junction box employed at the end of the already done run and three 20mm conduits used instead which sped the job up by hours saved.

36", although not called conduit by that stage ! (Bent with heat)
Threaded pipe - we go to to 8" nb max (219mm) cold (mandrel) bent.

I've used plenty of 1.5 inch, 2 inch and 2.5 inch couplers, lockrings and bushes for entering DBs. But never seen conduit that size! Assumed it existed due to the existence of those components, but never actually seen any. We'd just use trunking.

32mm as an apprentice back in the late 80's.

32mm is great for enclosing 25mm CU tails when moving a CU to another location.

2 inch when I was an apprentice in the late 60’s.

32mm with windmill stocks and ties :-)

3.5-inch conduit had to thread the full length by hand.

Use Conlok fittings with 20mm and 25mm pipe. No need for threading.

Never used anything bigger than 25mm conduit. Anything bigger I used trunking, tray or basket!
Sod Pulling cable in 2", it's bad enough in 25mm conduit!

Tell a lie, 150mm ducting.
