There is a theory he is Arthur Dayne at how skilled he was. It’s on Order of the Greenhand under the wars to come titles they are great vids

Edit: The comments are a war, here’s why I believe the theory. 1. The characters of Tormund and Qhorin are suspiciously related to Oswell and Gerold. 2. (As I believe in N+A=J because Lyanna was never gonna be Jons mum) Mance (Arthur) wasn’t going to kill Jon as he was kin and he knew who he was when Mance would have no real need of a crow (not essentially needing it would be helpful tho)
3. As he was ‘brought up’ in the Shadow Tower was a lie spread by him and Oswell as they were some of the oldest members of the watch as the green boys were coming through and Jason Mallister could be in on it.
