Norman Speed Clips Review (Are They BETTER Than A Loop Knot?)

Of course, I had a lot of people agree and disagree with me, but one thing that surprised me is that so many people recommended that I check out the Norman Speed Clips.

These clips have the same functionality of a snap swivel, but they have an open face to allow for less restricted movement (similar to a loop knot).

Since they were requested so much, I picked up a pack and took them on the water with me.

And in this vide, I'll show you what I thought about them, and whether or not I would recommend them.

Have you used Norman Speed Clips?

What do you think about them?

Let me know down in the comments!

For older eyes, these clips might save some time and frustration on the water.

I like to experiment with various hard lures, especially top waters. Clips are handy because I use a very short heavy mono leader tied to braid (helps prevent the hooks twisting around the braid when casting). Otherwise, I would be shortening the already short leader by retieing frequently and then retieing the leader to braid.

I'd argue that its not about the speed of knot tying but rather that it saves you from re-tying leader or rather eating up 5-6 inches each time your changing setups. This is why i'm going to try them. Fishing on a gheenoe i try to limit setups so this can save me from bringing an extra rod for top water vs suspending/diving etc.

They work for me although crazy fish like skipjack can open the clip with their strikes alone. I agree tying a loop knot for each lure is well worth it.

I know my knots but I use a fastach alot. Never lost a lure using it and the lures have great action. While other guys are re-tying I'm catching fish.

Every...Dang...One...of my favorite baits on that table. 😉
Nice work as always. No thanks to the snap swivel and ditto remarks on why not.

I use Tactical Anglers Clips. They come in a variety of sizes, and the lure slips onto the clip instead of having to pinch the clip open. I’ve found it very hard to switch out a lure with wet fingers.

I have used the Norman speed clips for years. Never had one disconnect accidentally. Does not seem to affect my catch rate. The metal has a flat finish and the loop at the end functions like a split ring. I can change lures in seconds.

Try the paper clip type - they're easier (no pinching) to attach lure, smaller (less visible to fish), strong, and allow plenty of freedom for natural lure movement.

These clips work great on a versatility rod. I can easily change out a topwater, twitch bait, spoon, popping cork or a bottom rig for cut bait. Other two rods a I like to carry are an open hook jig and a weedless.

Great clips have used them for over 20 years. Never had one fail on me.

Thanks, ...good unbiased video with pros and cons for us to decide. I'll definitley try these....especially with my wifes setup so she can quickly change but also for my extra setups which usually have crank baits or topwater and i often go back and forth and eat up 6 inches or so of leader each time i switch. I usually fish jigheads on soft and have knocker and freeline setups as my main 2 other rods used but this can make my hard lure decisions very maleable for on the fly changes. Thanks a bunch!

I think you make some good points. Here's a problem with fishing. .. quite often we're using braided line with a 6-ft liter. Another knot you use, you feel is acceptable but many of us feel that knot is not acceptable and to tie a good knot takes a good one foot of line off your leader. So if you have a 6-ft leader then you're going to tie six times and be done with that pole because it is a bit more time to tie a new leader on to your braided line. I think darker water allows for more use of snaps or snaps levels but it all depends on how it affects your action. The last video you showed, that had a lure on it, was certainly not a saltwater lure I don't believe. As I use larger lures than that for freshwater. Larger lures are less effective by snapshots. The reason I chased this video down was that it's a bit of work how I do it where I pre-tie leader to the worst and attach them to a snapshot 3 ft away so that they're unaffected by the snap. I was hoping somebody came up with some new news and it appears that you have. So thank you.

I've been using cross-lock snaps for hardbaits only for the last 20 years with no failures. They provide good action on topwaters, jerkbaits and crankbaits, I see no issue with using them for those applications. I wouldn't consider using them with jigs, soft plastics or any other slow moving baits as I feel they could catch on any cover present.

I have used them for years just on treble hook lures and have had no failures also now that I'm up in the old folks age I like them even more.

Definitely stay with the tying of loop knots, simply the best presentation and non restrictive movement., thanks

Just another version of a snap swivel. I've used snaps for 50+ yrs. to facilitate quick lure changes and have caught everything Charlotte Harbor, Fl. has to offer. I will certainly try the Speed Clip to see how it compares. It must prove to a better mouse trap before I'm sold.

Great video, I prefer less terminal tackle on my lures but I can give this a try, thank you for sharing.
