Katamari Damacy Delivers Therapy Through Destruction | Snapshot

There are a lot of games about the act of creation. From slowly building up your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, to leveling up your Phantom Thieves in Persona 5, to Media Molecule’s Dreams, which is pretty much a video game that gives you all the tools needed to make your own video game. And of course, the opposite is true. There are plenty of games centered around the act of destruction. Bringing down a building in Battlefield 4, using your psychic powers to tear apart the Oldest House in Control, and hell, even clearing a Tetris board feels a bit destructive.

Really proud of how this one turned out. Katamari is such a strange and special game for me. Hope y'all dig it!

It still shocks me how small of a franchise Katamari is, I feel like if the game came out if an indie studio in 2016 instead of Bandai Namco in 2004, it would be a huge success

That game is perpetually charming, and I'll never get sick of the soundtrack.

Beautiful video! Would love more like this. Katamari is one of my favorite series as well and I have nearly the exact same thoughts, so seeing them laid out so well was awesome. It's just so meditative and satisfying, it's really never a bad time to pop it in my PS2 and go roll some stuff up.

For me, reading the King Of All Cosmos' absurdly certain 'explanations' for all the earthly artifacts purpose and meaning is a tremendous payoff at the end of a fun rolling session!

I love the Katamari games! Beautiful Katamari was my introduction to it, and still my favourite one - mainly for a few memorable levels and the music.
I do kinda wish there was a proper next gen sequel though, where items bend and squash as they are rolled around, and your katamari flexes and compresses depending on the obstacles. Proper physics!

2:28 after SCW, was that use of “recursive” a coincidence?

This seems like a really creative game, can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it

Katamari is *exactly* what I want in a game — fun play dynamics in an intensely silly and surreal environment. Thanks for reminding me!

Katamari is a wonderful game franchise. I have Reroll downloaded on Switch and would love to see more of the games remastered. I love Katamari with all my heart and it brings me joy to see that it's still getting recognition even now, considering it seems to be rather obscure.

I played the Beautiful Katamari demo a bunch on the 360, I kinda regret never buying the full game, it was such a unique experience.

One of my favorite games and I do feel like I like to get better at it and have gotten better at it but I agree it's not really the point. Also I always wanted and endless mode so I could finally clean the place up how I wanted. Because that's the only reason I tried getting better was so I could clean it how I wanted.

A very unique game and happens to be one of my favorites ever!

Catamari Damacy is very Zen. Like stardew valley, it's not a matter of trying to kill an end boss or achieve a certain singular objective, but rather it's a matter of being a part of it, of just doing it and being in the moment. In a Zen garden you rake the rocks simply to be present in the moment; you aren't trying to create something specific, you simply are. You simply be.
