Thank you! This is exactly what I needed! Somehow I clicked on something and every time I put in the page number, it would add the number 1 to every page and then completely get rid of the heading.

This doesn't work for the current Word; not sure if I have 201 or 2016. I think 2016. But, if you chose the one on the left, even if your curser is on the right, it inserts the page number on the left and removes what you typed on the left. If you chose the right side, it will put it on the right side, but it still deletes what you typed on the left. Word updates are not good; what were they thinking!
