Big Room Planning in Action: Harnessing the Power of Agile at Scale

To be successful at enterprise scale agile, organizations must connect the work of their agile teams, to their strategy and to what they deliver. At the core of scaling agile is release planning which must be done together in a ceremony called Big Room Planning. That is a good example of the PI Planning goal for an enterprise using SAFe. It is also a good way to promote Agile Central. But pay attention to the tool you choose for your Agile Implementation. After working in Agile since over 15 years now, i recommend to not use Agile Central as a tooling, instead use Jira, or Version ONE. Agile Central is a money maker for CA, that requires to hire also developers to have customisations done in the tool. i was previously in an organization that due to some budget cut was not able to have CA developers to do basic customizations, and this had an impact on the productivity, as the PO and SM were constantly using Excel to build views that were not possible in Agile Central. So their time was not used to work with the team, but instead to make the tool more flexible for their needs. Consider using Jira, that is based on an open community, and do not require extra cost on having developers to assist you. With Jira you will not be stop by waiting for a developer to come and do something, but you will be always in control of what you want to achieve with the tool. Of course, that is based on my personal experience.
