Skinner small hunting knife made from deer antler for the handle and blade made from old circular blade saw.
At this homemade knife project i used a deer antler i found at the hike we had with Kika(my dog)for the handle and recycled my old metal cutting disc for the knife blade.
Started with sanding-straightening the antler with my small belt grinder and for the brass part that connects the blade with antler used a 2" hydraulic part that i cut to half and then straighten it at my railroad anvil. With my electric grinder i cutted the piece needed from the flattened brass part and started marking the steel cutting disc to seize a blade from it.After cutting off the blade patern from the old metal disk i sanded and made the bevel with my belt grinder.Next step was the heat treating in my gas propane forge that did the job heating up the little blade very quick and with the file after the heat treat process i found the metal very hard.Made the hole on the brass part and antler but needed to heat up the blade tang so it fits perfect inside the handle. When everything could be put together i started cleaning the hole at the handle and used some epoxy glue for securing blade, brass and handle.Left the knife on the clamp for the next day so the glue dries 100% and started by removing the extra material from the brass and handle with grinder, belt sander and last sanded by hand with no 150 sand paper. For sharpening the small blade used my 120/240 small water stone with good results and for the final touch I brushed the skinner knife with glanol cream.Made a small test by cutting some synthetic leather pieces and was very pleased from the handle, cutting and blade hardness.
This diy knife making project started at the days of second lockdown November 2020(covid19) at Greece
