Giant Cretan Lyra - γιγάντια λύρα

Giorgios Papaleksakis' unique "giant lyra" - and my first play of it. It requires a combination of lyra and cello technique because of its size. I love its sound.

I call it a "Tenor Lyra" because it's an Octave below the regular Lyra.

Hopefully you can see that it has Geared Tuners like a Guitar so it's easier to tune than a Standard Cello, plus it's meant to be played w/ a Cello Bow. The 4 String Violyra has the same tuning as a Violin, but the Guitar style tuning keys make it easier to tune, & you can even use a string winder for faster string changes.

I play a cello and for this to be close to the size … I wouldn’t dream of playing it.

Good thing it has Geared tuners so that tuning is easier. If you hold the Cello bow Overhand things will be easier
