Has Renault done enough for the Clio to keep up with the likes of the Volkswagen Polo. Should we STILL building super mini’s?

I bought this same model and I love it. It’s way better than my previous Peugeot 208. The hybrid part is better than I expected as well. I’m very happy with it.

Points that I like

1. You can disable keyless entry via the infotainment system. (Helps prevent keyless relay theft)
2. The oil dipstick is easy to read
3. Engine is naturally aspirated, no turbo lag and the electric motors assist acceleration really well
4. Fuel injection is port injection not direct, therefore no carbon build up on the intake valves and performance issues over time
5. Automatic gearbox is a clutchless design, less maintenance (i.e. no clutch replacement )
6. Disc brakes all round, easier to replace over drums if you are into DIY
7. Sport mode livens up steering and acceleration response
8. Comfort, road noise levels and cabin quality.

Points I do not like

1. You cant view the exact tyre pressures on the dash / infotainment, only see green / yellow / red status
2. There is an additional coolant reservoir for the electric motors, something else to keep an eye on
3. No heated front windscreen, icy weather means scrapping and using de-icer
4. Door mirrors are not heated
5. Infotainment system is not the most responsive
6. UK model does not come with 360 cameras and park assist
7. Cost
8. Order delivery times, some franchised dealers quoting up to 6 months, whereas Renault Retail may get you one in less than a month.

And Shadow Grey is the best colour to order 🙂

I’ve had my Clio for just over 2 years. It’s been a great car. Fully intend to get this new model at the end of the year. One of the main reasons I chose this car IS the design of the rear doors and the hidden handles. In my opinion it makes the car more attractive and almost coupe like. Always thought 3 door cars look good. Very sad I think that there is now almost a total absence of 3 door options on the market. That’s the main reason I’ll stick with the Clio (for now!).

The new styling really freshens up the look of the Clio. Great review Tish.

Got a hybrid 1.6 evolution 2 days ago....62 mpg on first run...incredible....go easy on the accelerator and 60mpg easily possible. 0% also a good shout! Ceramic grey also lovely!

Was never a Clio fan but this and the previous generation I really like. Wouldn’t say it’s a small car anymore but everything above it have increased in size also.

Quietly stylish car, a good option if you're getting bored with brash Peugeots. Some interesting technology too on the hybrid with its "dog box, " and no worries about where to charge it. I'd consider it next time I throw money away on a car😂

Good review as always, Tish! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥇
I owned a 90 cv tce Clio and I enjoyed it very much. Comfortable, handily, not very noisy, and with a consumption average of 7, 3 l./100 km mainly in urban areas. ❤
I think that this new hybrid engine fits well in this car. 👍
But you’re right, I don’t like the rear doors handle either. 😅

In my country, Belgium, Renault isn't exactly cheap or affordable. None of the European car brands are actually. Yes you can get an ultra basic Citroen C3 with an interesting starting price but that one is almost more basic than a Dacia Sandero but with a higher price than the latter. None of the German cars have offerings that you could call affordable, not even the fake German brands like Ford and Opel. You have to either opt for Dacia or to the brands who still offer ulta compact cars such as Toyota with the Aygo X, Hyundai with the i10, it's twin the Kia Picanto or some Suzuki compact models (although they are more expensive but offer massive discounts on a regular basis which is kind of silly). But even these cars aren't really affordable when you know that their prices more than doubled compared to 5 to 6 years ago (and please don't give the bullshit about inflation and parts shortages). This means that what is called "affordable" is in fact what would have cost you for a well equipped small family car a few years ago. In my book it's called "stealing, ripping off, scamming people...

In other markets this is the new Mitsubishi Colt. The Renault Captur is the new Mitsubishi ASX. Mitsubishi are out of the UK though so the closest relatives are the Nissan Micra and Nissan Juke for those looking for something the same but different. Think the Dacia Sandero and Dacia Duster are the other relations

You can get a sofa, a bedroom lamp, even a toaster with built in usb points.
But it seems overlooked on so many 4/ 5 seater cars.
Its not rocket science is it, manufactures count the number of sestbelts in your car at design stage and add the same amount of usb chargers.

It should mirror the same dash as the facelift Captur. The gear selector in the Clio looks a bit old fashioned.
