As a kid, I never understood this. Fast forward 10 years and I'm in business school, and I am legitimately impressed at how in-depth they made the plot of this movie. It's definitely a different movie when you understand what he's saying in this scene, as well as many others

I watched this scene as a 11 year old didn’t understood a thing

Now a 23 year old with a Bachelor in Business and Financial Management I’m all like damn they’ve ruined my beloved racing

that switch up from being a man who seemed to believe in this young racer to being the best cartoon villain in live action history is amazing

This is such a fantastic villain monologue. I watched this movie a few years ago in my late 20s and was blown the fuck away. I kinda wished this had Speed's response though. "Pops is right. You are the devil."

Unless I miss my guess, Speed Racer is set in an alternate 1980.

The pictures of Ben Burns were of actor, Richard Roundtree, as he appeared in 1971--37 years before the filming of Speed Racer. If we are to assume according to the film's reality that the '43 Grand Prix was the same amount of time ago, that places the present day of Speed Racer, squarely in 1980.

If the actor had no knowledge of racing and everything in terms of corrupt businesses, I'm shocked because Royalton feels like a true corrupt billionaire running a racing industry.

From what I undrstood, Burns won so that Potts losing could allow Iodyne (Burns' sponsors) and Sirrus Aeronautics to merge and somehow corner the powercell market.

I understood him when I was a child. It changed my view of the entire modern world.

1:10 - For some reason, when I was young, I used to think Oliver Potter looked like that “Fat Bastard” guy from the “Austin Powers” trilogy.

I was mad during Matrix 4 as I remembered how good they usually write meta commentary.

This scene perfectly describes sports front offices and Hollywood executives today! As a person who’s passionate about sports and movies, it makes me feel bitter.

This reminds me of the scene between Nolan Sorrento and Parzival in ready player one.

Pretty great speech that any corruptive businessman would do!
