I love it how when it comes to WW2 people seem to always forget that USSR existed.

It wasn’t just that Hitler directed the people to his ideals, but he exploited their deepest fears and strongest prejudices. That’s why he was so powerful in his speeches, he could read the audience and determine their mood.

I find it rather interesting how people entirely forget The Bengal Famine of 1943, that Churchill directly caused, killing close to 3 million people of starvation because they weren't even allowed to eat the food they themselves grew..

fun fact: in Operation Catapult, at Alexandria, there was one French ship where a number of officers waited aboard armed solely with a cake and 27 candles to celebrate the British commander's birthday.

My first dislike on this channel as some others have said, you cannot be Thoughty2 so naive? It is so silly how you talk that before the world was black & white but now it is grey.. of course it was always grey, but because of the lack of internet and other alternative media made sure they did not make in the the history books

Churchill was involved in Concentration camps in SA. Good, and evil is a disneyland theme. Churchill is spoke of well due to the spoils of war. Expect better from Thoughty2

A food for thought: If the nazis would have won the war, he would be telling the same history with the same arguments just for the opposite side.

I tell ya T2, you are indeed not of this time. Your take on the world is more like great Classical music. You are part of the much younger generation that often times gets a bad rap. You are entirely too unique to be categorized in such a way. You’re a renaissance man in a much younger package. From your intelligence and what I consider ageless wisdom, to your choice of facial hair, you’re a cut above the rest. I’m a 50 year old seeker of knowledge and wisdom that appreciates your uncanny ability to teach us all a thing or 2! You’ve become possibly my favorite presenter and I look forward to your continuing contributions.

You kind of forget to distill what it takes to be a great leader. You say - emotional intelligence - but then do not go into any detail about what that constitutes. Also, you skip over the fact that Hitler believed he was acting for "good" - not "evil". In fact, most leaders do. Even the communist leaders in the USSR, China, Cambodia etc. who killed millions of people of their own population, thought they were acting for "good". You also say that Churchill had no desire to invade and enslave other nations, but Churchill was earlier in his life actually quite active in the fights against the zulus and the boers in South Africa under British rule.

6:48 I call bullcrap. "Annotation: In August 1862, Lincoln stated: "If I could save the union without freeing any slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that."

Since Im neither French nor British and since this is the first time I hear about this story, I will give my [hopefully] objective opinion. I cant justify Churchill's actions against the French navy. His decision was difficult yes, but ultimately based in his distrust of the French. Besides, if the French didn't want to surrender to the mightiest navy in the world against the most powerful ship at the time as you claim, then it makes sense that they wouldn't have allowed the Nazi's to take over their fleet without a fight, since they would be even less afraid or intimidated by the Nazi's.

The French knowing that their Navy stood no chance against the British Navi, didn't surrender out of principle. That should have been enough for Churchill to realize that the French would do what they promised and destroy their ships. The real heroes are the French, who despite being surrounded and served an ultimatum by their supposed 'allies', didn't open fire or try to escalate the situation in any way. Besides, if Churchill knew that Hitler would undoubtedly try to capture the French Navi, why didn't he work with the French together to set a trap for the Germans and possibly end the war altogether or at least end the possibility of their advance outside of Europe? Oh right, he didn't trust them. What a hero. Sorry I know you're British, and I dont mean to insult, but I think its way more objective to say that he was wrong, or rather, didn't exhaust all his possibilities.

Lincoln once said of slaves, "I would drown the lot of them if I could." He didn't care about slavery, he just wanted to preserve the Union.
