Listening to your favorite music while you paint realy helpts in enhancing the process. But having someone that you love present during the process; dog, cat, bird, etc., makes it all the more special! So get to it!

Not having to paint everything you see is a very helpful tip. It loosens up how I view my reference photos. Change stuff around, mix and match....

Thank you for explaining your process, it was very informative. The very best part of the video is you holding your dog while painting. That's talent!

As far as painting on paper, I've found 140lb watercolor paper works very well. I've been doing paintings on that for about a year or so now and they look nice and you can thin down like watercolor for the block in and then build up through modelling and finishing. Helps to force you to use more paint because of the papers absorbency as well as color mixing and matching. I've found painting on paper helps take the stress off of painting on canvas because I felt canvas had to be perfect and paper doesn't so it freed me up to be more expressive and relax.

Thank you for explaining the meaning when ppl say, “the idea for this painting… ”. That was helpful. Great breakdown of the steps. As soon as the video ended, I realized there was no “ Now, go get painting”. I’m stumped. Can’t even paint now. Just kidding. But it is one of my favorite things that you say. I even added that statement to my morning “habit stack” to get me started. Planning on getting the T-shirt, too. Please don’t stop saying, Coach. We need it!

I bought that same Edgar Payne book last month. It is an incredible education on painting. Highly recommended.

6:40 I absolute love your videos and honestly I have come to like your personality as well because of these small things you talk about such as the ideas of your personal experience that carries the most meaningful things yet they are simple.

Love the video! It's soooo hard to get a good reference for landscapes! I can sit for hours trying to find a good one. I need to get better at making compositional changes :)
