Mortensen is the greatest authority on piano pedagogy I have ever come across. Teaching, playing, improvising, funny guy, lots of analogies to grease the learning process. Craig recommended him in his resource tutorial, as well as others. Kudos to Craig.

Agreed. Mortensen says there is only one variable on pushing down keys-speed or velocity going down gives a lot of dynamic variation. Dr. J says this exactly. Not a matter of force, but velocity of key stroke.

I play the piano and I do put a lot of force into the keys when I play songs like fur Elise because it sounds better idk why

In a way though, the velocity depends on the acceleration, which does depend on how much force you put into the key before the hammer is struck.

There’s a certain “sweet spot” I’ve found by using the gravitational force on hands/fingers to press the keys fast but not forcefully.

It feels like my hands are bouncing off the keys like a ping pong ball bouncing 6 inches high.
