Makes you wonder how William turned out normal at all. I think we can thank the Middletons for that.

No wonder why the Middletons are so respected by William .

I hope William has broken the generational trauma. His parents were obviously a hot mess.

Charles should have thanked Wendy Berry for writing the book. It shows that Diana wasn't perfect and Charles wasnt always at fault.

Diana was definitely not a nice person. She weaponized her sons against their father to her advantage, harming their relationship with him. As an adult, William sought out people who knew his mother, so he could attempt to understand who she was. Harry has not, to the detriment of many. His attitude toward Charles has its roots with Diana, imo.

As someone famous once said, Diana was a loving mother but not a good one.
Remember, we’re only hearing about most weekends so the author is only seeing a small part of what’s going on.
PS I don’t think the Middleton family gets the credit they deserve by the public for the stabilising force they provided William and it’s said, I think by him, that the reason he waited so long to marry was he wanted to be absolutely sure that Catherine could cope with EVERYTHING that came with the role- paps, press, criticism etc because he “knew what divorce looked like “.

This is my opinion: the way Di ran off crying constantly and being overly dramatic is why I think H thinks what M was doing (falling to the floor sobbing over perceived and imagined slights, falling into some random security guys arms sobbing) was acceptable and totally the norm.

I think Charles was fed up with her by this point, because he was also aware that she could "pull herself together" for strangers and cameras, but not for him, his children, or his family. She was a petulant child in an adult body.

Charles: Crown Prince/entitlement. . . Synonymous.
Luckily, William had the distinct advantage of spending a great deal of quiet time in the bosom of a normal family, the Middletons.
Diana was the savior in public, but couldn’t cut it in private. . . .with her own family, who should have been her priority. So, no matter how you look at it, the lady was a drama queen.

Seems like Meghan Markle is just like Diana after all, as Harry has claimed all along.

Cheere, please, please do not make excuses for Diana’s appalling childish and immature behaviour. If Diana got her tennis court, then she would find something else to want. It was all about needing constant and continual attention. Slapping Charles across the face, calling him names and degrading and abusing her personal staff, says a lot about Diana. If her Bulimia was partially responsible for her emotional and cruel behaviour, Diana would not be able to continually change to put on that saintly perfect persona for the public. Diana like Meghan completely showed their true nature as soon as that ring was on their finger. I dont blame Charles for turning to Camilla and you know from Lady C’s book that Diana had already had several affairs.

OMG Diana slapped charles? Apple didn't fall far from tree. She is so much like her beloved Daddy minus alcoholism.

It actually makes me think, maybe Harry was right, saying his wife is like his all the bad parts

I absolutely find your “Diana voice” to be so charming, and so authentic! It really makes listening to your reading of the book so much fun!

It's disrespect for the help if you argue in front of them.

I think this book is probably the most authentic story of Charles and Diana that has ever been written...and possibly why the book was banned in the UK!

It's even more astonishing that Diana acted that way because she kept going on and on, similarly to Harry now, how HER parent's separation had affected her. My theory is that she was somehow almost stunted in her emotional development from the divorce of her parents. She grew up with staff, her father had a new gf and she started to manipulate people around her. In effect she always behaved like a spoilt child who had a sense of duty and was utterly charming, that's why people loved that look of hers which was childlike, but at the same time felt it was her right to be manipulative and vindictive. She never had some sort of reigning in. Her father didn't do it, her mother wasn't there, Raine Spencer certainly didn't do it, and the school didn't do it as well. She was left to her own devices and her strategy was to manipulate and to punish people that she didn't like or who she perceived wronged her. Her brother is also quite unsuccessful when it comes to relationships. He also has a cruel streak. And, we shouldn't forget, that there are rumours that the Spencers tend to be highly strung. Her brother's children basically experienced the same turmoil that Diana and he did. Diana was compassionate to strangers. It was like she had that side but she wanted adoration in return for it. Being kind to the family is perceived as normal, she didn't bother. After her father died, she and her brother put all of Raine's belongings in black bin bags and shoved them down the stairs. After the funeral of the Earl. And she also kicked Raine down the stairs. She never disputed it and Raine, even though a real Lady, basically admitted that it happened. No man could have ever satisfied her craving for attention and love. It would have never been enough. Just like her brother, she loved to be in love. People also forget how she tortured Oliver Hoare and his wife after he broke it off with her. Charles was set in his eccentric ways and she couldn't cope with him and he realized she was too much for him to handle. He knows that he is eccentric and that's why he and Camilla live often separately. She goes to Ray Mill House and he does his thing but they still adore each other. Diana was deeply unhappy and she needed to let steam off. She wanted someone else to feel pain, too. She also wanted to assert herself. Being cruel to one of her staff was freedom for her. She could do what she wanted. Unregulated. Harry was small but he saw this. I guess that's another thing that attracts him to MM.

I’ve always loved Diana, and was devastated when she passed away, but this book says what I always suspected, that she always had to have an entitled and narcissistic attitude. She clearly courted the press when it suited her, and complained when it didn’t. Nobody is the perfect person, and she was always seen through rose tinted glasses because her beauty and vulnerability would always get sympathy.

Wendy Berry was forced to leave the UK because of this book. The then prince of Wales (King Charles) went great lengths to made her life a living hell and tried to destroy the poor woman reputation and financially. So much so that she never published her second book about Diana. Happily King Charles never said that the book was inaccurate and pardoned Wendy at the end so she could return to the UK to take care of her sons who were dangerously ill at that time. In other words, this book is very truthful about the truth nature of Charles and Diana.
