Показать описание
The first launch of Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket, mission name NG-1, is scheduled for no earlier than January 12, 2025, from Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. This is Blue Origin's first orbital launch attempt, aiming to compete in the heavy-lift rocket market.

New Glenn stands at 98 meters tall and features a reusable first stage designed to land on a barge named Jacklyn in the Atlantic Ocean. The rocket will carry the Blue Ring Pathfinder, a test version of Blue Origin's spacecraft platform, to validate its communications and operational capabilities from orbit to ground.

Can we give a hats off to Tim. He's always here, even if it's 2AM on a vacation? He's awesome. I really appreciate his coverage and thoughts.

Respect for putting scrubbed in the title.

Their casters were surprisingly bold, saying over and over the launch was tonight. Never used might or could be. Just it's happening. Wild.

Thanks, Tim. I fell asleep and woke up to listen in on what happened. As always, you’re positive and respectful thoughts and comments are always welcome. Hope you can get some rest and wish you well for all your busy endeavours this month and beyond. Lots of love to all from Toronto.❤❤❤

Tim Dodd (free translation): New Glenn is closer to starship in size than to falcon 9.

actually, depends on how you look at it. If you look visually you might get that impression, but it doesn't take into account how volume works, where a small increase in diameter gives a big increase in volume.

Falcon 9: 70 meters tall, 3.7 meters wide, gives a volume of 752 m³
New Glenn: 90 meters tall, 7 meters wide, gives a volume of 3463 m³, up 2711 m³ from Falcon 9
Starship: 120 meters tall, 9 meters wide, gives a volume of 7634 m³, up 4171 m³ from New Glenn

So in terms of volume, New Glenn is closer to Falcon 9 than to Starship.

Big respect for all the people working on NG rocket science is no walk in the park. I get that rocket development philosophies are different in companies and that is what makes all this awesome. Its a great time to be alive and witness all these efforts, wishing them all the best when the rocket finally

Tim, I love and appreciate you so much. I know what it's like to work 80 hours a week for weeks on end with nobody seeing or understanding everything behind the scenes. Or staying up past your limit to get a project done, only for the timeline to change at the last moment. I just want you to know that I recognize the level of work you put in. And I'm super grateful for it. And I'm proud of how far you've come, as a long time viewer from your <20, 000 subs days.

You're the man, Tim. Seriously. I appreciate you so much.

Thanks for all the commentary. it made the waiting a lot better, even though NG scrubbed in the end.

Hey Tim, even tho i watched this on replay an hour behind live & new it was a scrub i still watched all the way thru becuese of all the hard work i know you & your team put into making these .
I learn something every time from you even though i have been a lifelong space nerd & its a pleasure hearing your wealth of knowledge on space flight & its physics.
Keep up the fantastic work & make sure you find time for yourself in all this to avoid burn out,
i know myself from being a successful world renowned sound engineer how easy it is to do to many things at once for to long & not notice,
it creeps up on you then bam before you know it your in bed for a week.
Thanks for your time & devotion to the space community & of course this coverage of Blue origins New Glenn, better a safe scrub & another go at flight than a big mess & no launch vehicle .
See you next time round for hopefully a successful test flight from the guys & girls at BO, all the best from the UK.

You deserve every word of praise from the industry. My dad was a Grumman engineer on the L.E.M., my love of aerospace was baked in. BUT you, you are an excellent educator, and no doubt inspiring tons of kids. If he was still around, you'd be on his playlist.

This is one of the reasons why the fly early and often approach is better. All issues, even down to sensor failures, can be worked out. Also staff can be trained on procedure and equipment confidence remains high. This was their first launch, a scrub was the most likely outcome.

I really wish Blue Origin success with their rocketry and thank you Tim for covering it! It would great to have more competition for SpaceX, or just more competition in general.

Tim, you are my go - to oracle when it comes to all things space.
The whole space industry respects you above all others.
Take it easy on yourself and chill. You can only do what you can do!
You need to take care of yourself so that you can keep us all informed as we seek new horizons.
Thankyou Tim

forget about HydroLox exhaust- if you get steam hot enough (a few hundred degrees past boiling point) it is energetic enough to ignite other things rather than put them out...

water is an effective fire retardant because it has such a high heat capacity that it can soak up a lot of energy before it's temperature gets high enough to evaporate away,
to be capable of receiving heat, the water has to be colder than the material that you are trying to cool

Blue Origin is not ready for prime time. Do they not know that the new launch time is out of the launch window buy 30 minutes.
