On November 28, 2017, the Prime Minister of Canada delivered a formal apology in the House of Commons to individuals harmed by federal legislation, policies and practices that led to the oppression of and discrimination against LGBTQ2 people in Canada. This is Michelle Douglas’ story. We are very proud to have Michelle as part of Canada’s Legal Team at the Department of Justice Canada. In 1989, Michelle was dismissed under Department of National Defence administrative release item 5d: "Not Advantageously Employable Due to Homosexuality." As a result of Michelle’s legal challenge, the military settled with her and ended its formal policy of discrimination.
