Welcome to the Colorado Junk Box art studio!
How do we get our snow crystals from the sky to you?
Here is a bit of what we do! Take a look at how we capture and preserve real snowflakes.
This channel is devoted to the art of snowflakes! Who?! What?! When?! Where?! Why?! How?!

Using superglue, you can preserve a perfect snowflake! The process can also be accomplished with hairspray and certain lacquers too.

Essentially, the snowflake preservation method works because as the glue hardens, the monomers link together in long polymer chains, a process triggered by moisture.

A chemist named Tryggvi Emilsson gets the credit for dreaming up this method of saving snowflakes. Ever fascinated by Wilson Bentley he came up with a way to preserve their 3D images. His realization was that superglue, which hardens on contact with water and prone to seeping into the most minuscule indentations and shapes, would be ideal for the job. To preserve a snowflake, the most common method is to catch it on a cold microscope slide, quickly add a small drop of thin, cold superglue, and then carefully place a coverslip on top; leave the slide in a freezer to allow the glue to fully harden and preserve the snowflake's structure

Several years ago I saw a teacher making a snowflake. He had two pieces of glass, put a drop of (something) between them and the snowflake appeared. I lost the clip and can't remember what the liquid was. If anyone has any ideas of what It might have been I would be very grateful. Thanks A Lot.
