After applying mineral spirits on the wood should I sand the whole piece again to remove any film residue from the mineral spirits? Or can I apply a finish like shellac right after it dries?

To clean off stickers, price tags and other sticky residue, you can use rubbing alcohol too.

Hmmmm... When I refinish or even have finish sanded a new hardwood floor, I always use a water damped rag to wet the wood and show the client what a natural finish (my favorite) would look like. Per #4, I think mineral spirits would work similarly perhaps. But without the wood "raising" from the water. Going to try it out on some oak in the shop and test it. Thanks for the idea!!! You could sure use a fireproof cabinet to keep all of your stains and other flammables in.

Dont clean your floors with mineral spirits if you have a finish on it. I don't think thats common though
