Description: The polonaise is a joyful Polish dance, which can be enacted by a few to even several hundreds of pairs marching in procession, following a trajectory proposed by the first pair. The basic step involves bending one leg while taking a step forward with the other. Typically transmitted within families and local communities, the polonaise commemorates important moments in family and community life – such as high-school proms and New Year’s celebrations. It symbolizes cooperation and equality and promotes unity, solidarity and dialogue.
