Abandoned 1962 F100 Factory 4x4! First time driving on the road in 39 years!

We picked up this 1962 Ford F100 factory 4x4 longbed stepside in late 2020 and attempted to get the Y-block loose and running in a previous video. But since it wouldn't build any compression we were needing to swap in a spare engine we found. Let's swap this engine in and see if we can get this pickup back on the road after sitting since 1983! If you were interested in this pickup it's already been sold to a new home! As always, thanks for watching!

You have to love that 'goo blown on the lens' effect- kinda gives it that warm fuzzy feel, like a pro photographer's portrait....or a bottle of orange vodka....😎

I think one of the things I enjoy about your channel is, it's easy to get frustrated and despondent with a project that fights you all the way, but to see you buckle down and dig in to the end with a sammich in one hand and Duffers licking the other just makes me appreciate the videos all the more.
It's real, and show how it usually is in the shop.. you don't just show the "glamorous side" and the easy wins.

P.s. was honestly fully expecting that other Y block to be stuck after all the fight 🤣

You give me hope for mine: '62 F100 4x4 step side in Caribbean Turquoise, inline six, three on the tree, power nothin'. It does have the three extra leaves in the rear springs like yours. Originally purchased by my ex's grandfather when he was 82 years old. He lived to be 92, then his two sons kept the farm and the truck, but never lived there. Ex's dad bought out his brother in the 1970s, I came on the scene in 1984 when the truck had 13K miles. It slowly crept up over the years until around 2000 when the family hired a new farm hand who liked driving the truck to town - 16 miles one way. I visited before that and the truck had 19K, and by the next time I visited it had 29K. In 2003, with 30, 300 miles on it, it was given to me. I've kept it garaged and driven it a little (it still has standard, not antique, plates and passes inspection) and last year it finally rolled over 40K. It's all original, but during those years on the farm it wasn't babied. Cattle farm + old men driving means it has plenty of cow and shed door dents. People keep telling me to "clean off those bird droppings" but it's white paint from when the truck was used as a scaffold when painting the barn. I've replaced the brake lines (and Inline Tube should still have the pattern if you're so inclined), some steering parts, tires, and all of the U-joints but otherwise it is untouched. I hope someday to get it fully restored but until then, I keep it inside, drive it once in a while, and wonder if/when I will get the $$ to have it done. I don't have the tools or a place to use them to do the job myself - plus, I don't want it to look like an amateur did it!

Ol' Duff is a pretty good helper. That truck would be a very good candidate for a full restoration.

Duff Cam cracks me up every time. I thought he was going to jump out the window to go after the birds...

Way to go Mortske! You and Duff finally got a Y-block running and driving. Don't let it go to your head. Keep up the good work. 👍

Got to admire Mortske's logic and reasoning. He sets realistic goals that follow a reward system. Remove engine = 1 barley samitch !

My dad had an identical (red, long bed stepside, 292, 4speed, pto winch)truck to that except a 1961model in the sixties and seventies. He replaced the engine with a 430 Mercury then went back to the 292. He loved that truck. RIP dad.

Not sure what my Monday’s would be like without a Mortske fix…. Thanks for doing what you do!

I remember in one of the old Charles Bronson death wish movies he had an F-100, I think it was tan, and they beat the crap out of that truck in the desert jumping it from one rock to another! I’ll have to look for it.👍

I really enjoyed this show. I am an old Ford man and still have my grandfathers 64 f100 that I learned to dive in! I have held on to it all these years with the intent to restore/ upgrade it.It has the old 223 six with 3 on the tree, short wide bed. It has so much character and style I could never sell it, even though tons of people have tried to buy it. to be able to run again it only needs a coil, ( stole it for my john deer when i was mowing!) new battery and fuel. This has given me inspiration to start working on it and get it up and going! Thanks again for your great video

This Ford guy doesn't need a hug. You just explained something. Only smart guys can work on Fords. They are too complicated for the rest.

You have inspired me to try a channel of my own, probably won't be anything like yours, but thanks for everything you do. Love the videos
