Magnificent Riflebird

Watch as a male Magnificent Riflebird shape-shifts into a black ovoid and mesmerizes a female by whipping his iridescent blue neck back and forth. Filmed by Ed Scholes, Tim Laman, and Eric Liner in August of 2009 in the Bird's Head Peninsula of western New Guinea.

That is some fancy footwork and nice moves. I especially love the ending when he stands tall and the blue color fades away. Absolutely beautiful.

How the bird knows what the color combinations are on its feathers and uses them in a dance coordination is beyond understanding and facinating. Who knows what other surprises nature has in store for us nowadays.🧐

With all that jumping up and down while moving up the branch then down again while also flipping his head from side to side it is amazing that he never once lost his balance!!
