The roadmap doesn't have to be linear though. It's often iterative. Learn just enough SQL to fetch some content from a database. Then learn enough to deploy a simple demo app. Learn a little bit of everything in the stack.

You don't need to master an area before you begin learning a bit of basics about another area.

Most web developers haven't tried to master hosting or databases - they just learn enough to get what they need.

My journey is even more complicated than going backwards. Started with python in my computer science degree, then C++, after a data science course with python I decided to learn SQL. Later on I moved to computer networking. Then said "what am I supposed to do with just SQL" and decided to do backend. Started a bootcamp, which slowly moved me to frontend. In conclusion, my "backend" journey is going with creating animating buttons now

I went a little backwards. Started with Linux when I was young because I wanted to try new things. Then worked with PHP for a company I work for. Learnt about MVC then found SQL due to a lot of changes and a broken CMS. Now I know PHP, HTML, CSS, MySQL and Linux/Windows CLI (note I didnt write JS because that shit is too confusing lol) I consider myself a full stack developer and I am hoping to be promoted to Lead Developer soon (I am the only developer lol)

I learned python first, then SQL, then django framework. I feel like using Django(ORM) to manipulate database is harder than writing raw sql since I already know some basic SQL

So appearently i have the skills to be a back end dev now noice. Learned pynthon and c# first and learned about data bases while working on a discord bot and learned about linux command line and vps stuff while making minecraft servers and hosting a website

I would recommend compiled language as your main one. If you are going for Python, you should understand, that in real cases it is just a programmable console for C++ libraries.
