How Genshin Hid the Final Element for 3 YEARS | Genshin Impact Theory

This Theory video will discuss the intricacies of the new Arkhe Mechanic in the game of Genshin Impact. We will dive into what Pneuma and Ousia really mean, and how they are connected to the final element that might be coming in the near future of the game. We often thought about the idea behind the 8th element, but with the release of Fontaine, we are able to look back in hindsight of the ways that the developers of Genshin Impact could have been planning everything from the beginning, and really, how they hid all the hints in plain sight since the beginning of the game.

Special Thanks to @tnbee for Lyney music!!!

everyone forgets about this but the light/dark combination was the main mechanic of enkanomiya 😭

Great insight! From a game developer perspective, pneuma and ousia won't just be in Fontaine (despite their claims), they've spent so many resources implementing the mechanics that it'd be a waste not to use it. Your examples of how the devs were testing swimming, by introducing the Pari "flying" mechanic and the wanderer were spot on. I'd also like to add the devs also introduced boats during Klee's first summer island event, which they later added for Inazuma.

4:38 It's not just Yelan in that cutscene. We know from Rene's Investigation Notes that Khaenri'ahn machines are powered by annihilation reactions, and the Ruin Serpent is *covered* in purple and gold during its charge up attack. Then there's all the gold effects associated with the twins - the most interesting being during the fight against Raiden. Vision holders, those who are capable of ascending to godhood, temporarily grant their power to our traveller, to take down a god who has received gnosis (but has not truly achieved it herself). So if vision holders are capable but do not seem to ever reach gnosis themselves (aside from the seven original archons and *probably* Vanessa), what kind of power would a visionless bearer of the elements have once they have acquired all the elements and achieve gnosis themselves? Maybe the power to dethrone a dying god.

I always thought Pneuma was Imaginary and Ousia was Quantum.

Throughout the archon quest Neuvillette is heavily implied to be the hydro dragon with the rain that starts and stops along with what Friminet says about the hydro dragon crying. He doesn’t have a vision because he doesn’t need one, like the archons or Yae who has a vision but can use electric elemental energy despite having a vision.

3:00 if you read rene's books it makes more sense. Basically pneuma is celestial energy and ousia is abyssal one. Their annihilation creates energy. Thats basically what the khaenriahns were trying to do

The reason why fontaine visions have one of those is because they absorb it from the environment

If they add the arkhe system for every character, that mean they can go in and buff every character they want. So beside just extra damage like what we have so far, the arkhe system can give buff, give utility and other stuff that other character may need.

Genshin is in it's unofficial "open beta", and what i mean by that is they're constantly adding new stuff, temporarily or not, to test new future mechanics. They didn't just add two new elemenets for Fontaine just for funsies, they're testing the waters so that they're prepared when it's time to release the real thing

For me Pneuma and Ousia are just like Yin and yang

+Imagine if Furina had both pneuma and ousia (split personality/eyes). I think it's a possibility.

The thing with Physical type damage, is that it can not exist at the same time as any of the elements. Any character can deal physical damage (any non-catalyst), deals either that OR their elemental one, not both at the same time (the elemental damage overwrites the physical type).
Pneuma and Ousia are on top of the normal damage type/element, and that means that they are on top of the physical one also. So, they are not in the same category.

Maybe those in abyss uses quantum and those in celestia uses imaginary

Great video Island! Thanks for taking the time. I think (But am not sure) in the Pari quest they also mention using Arkhium as an anergy source (as genshin's equivalent to a radioactive element perhaps?) so i also figure the name of Arkhe may come from that.

I think this is the only logical reason they would have added them to the game. And would make a lot of sense when you look at characters like Dainsleif and Tartaglias secret power

I personally think if they are going to add the Light and Dark elements, they might have similar reactions to geo or anemo. It might be the same reaction with all the reactable elements, but with different effects like how swirl and crystallize work. This would add new 'elements' while not adding too much complex mechanics like dendro

This is such a great point to bring up. I was always wondering how they would tackle the quantum or imaginary element/ powers in genshin. The implications of it's existence was always there and now the clues are and lore is more out in the open. Sorta. But I understand how tye devs are not out right saying that it's quantum or imaginary due tye setting and lore of genshin. Compared to the other games the concept is already more common because it's actually been actively researched or experimented in those games but in genshin it's still more of a mystery because I suppose due to lore ppl in the game haven't advanced that far yet or it's getting different names like abyss and life energy. Really curious to see what they cook up.

Amazing insights with the Pneuma/Ousia mechanics and its future applications to different aspects of Genshin! It's giving me hope that they will be adding this when Dain becomes playable.

I'm also hopeful that Neuvillette's position of being playable without a vision is a test for future characters with no vision and expand on the Annihilation mechanic more.

Technically archons don't have a vision and we've already had Miko as an exception who does have the vision gem displayed on her but it's not encased in the inazuma crest like for literally every other vision holder and the only one who has the same pattern is Raiden having the gem inside her fan decoration on her back.
Nuvi if we really want to speculate is either the dragon reincarnated into the human that was hinted in lore or something of a higher rank Oceanid, we literally just had an event with oceanids transforming into humans and they all had a different shaped ear similar to him.

What is super suspicious is Dainsleif, his power seemed more bluish and we can see Ousia being very much purpe and so the questions are
- Is Dainsleif using Abyss powers which are different from Ousia?
- IIs it Khaenri'ah related ability and not Abyss/Ousia?
- Is Ousia = Abyss power?
But the thing is Hoyo does not change the color of Elements and Abilities... Every cryo ability looks the same, every Pyro ability looks the same in terms of VFX coloration ofc so why is his ability Blue + black and not Purple + black?

The abyss twin did use something that looks like Ousia however, his/her sword was glowing purple emitting a black/dark purple aura.

Either way I'm really looking forward to this region's Dainsleif quest - those are always great

hey island! i really like this style of video- i hope you had fun making it! I cant recall where I know this from but I remember that sometime we learned that the elements the abyssal monsters use are not exactly the same as the ones playable characters use (with their vision)- i kinda got the impression that the abyss or ousia reflects light differently so the element of cryo for example appears differently as well. and all that really reminded me of what you said in the video
