The key to getting a dad bike is to not have kids so you can actually afford it

I just bought one of these. Compared to the Multi-Strada that I got rid of:

1. Engine is more powerful but does not have that unique and glorious Ducati induction noise when opening the throttle.
2. Quick shifter is definitely better on the Ktm. The transmission overall is better with no false neutrals and it’s always easy to find neutral.
3. Overall electronics package is better on the Ktm with more options and customization.
4. Skyhook suspension on the Ducati is more plush in the street mode compared to the Ktm Street mode. Overall handling is similar.
5. Throttle response is better on the Ducati compared to the KTM, especially in the performance modes on both bikes. The Ktm‘s is a little snatchy.
6. Overall rider comfort is about the same on both pertaining to body position, wind protection, etc. The Ktm seat, however, is significantly firmer.
7. The Ducati, in my opinion, is a better looking bike. The Ktm‘s front end is ugly.
8. Ktm has adaptive cruise control. Non-factor for me because I’ll never use it.

I just want to clarify something. This 1290 SA is in competition with the Ducati MS and the BMW GS. The KTM 1290 Super Duke GT is in competition with the BMW S1000XR.

I love my KTM1290SAS, I do a lot of gravel roads. Put gravel tires on it and you will find it very off road capable bike. Wheels are the same size as the BMW GSA.

God I love KTM. I ride a 2021 350 EXC-F, before this I had a 2017 250 SX-F Factory Edition. My dad rides a '21 500 EXC-F, both our bikes have an FMF F4.1, and the 500 has a Vortec ECU. That thing is a beast!

You can have the seat in high and low setting, you had it in high setting, so for shorter rider it can get lower

I bought a SAS today in Tulsa and rode it back to my home in the Ozarks in Arkansas. It's a big machine that makes cruising at 90-ish feel sedate. It's deceptively quick. I do miss the wire wheels and Pirelli STR tires of my trade (FTR 1200 Rally), but that will be a future upgrade. The adaptive cruise works really well.

I believe it's a good deal. I currently have a Multistrada v4s sport and a 2017 ktm SAR and I'll be adding this bike to the stable shortly. I don't sweat the tech pack. That work costs money and it's still a good value compared to the Multistrada. If we want ktm to keep bring cool stuff it costs r and d. I am disappointed that it has radar but....no blind spot detection like the Multistrada.

How’s the seated riding position feel on the knees? Say for a 32 inch inseam? Your thigh to calf looks about 80 degrees versus the ideal 90 degrees

This bike's competition is not the BMW XR it will be the BMW GS/GSA. The XR competition will be the KTM GT.
