New details are revealed in a new interview with PG Gamer for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The details highlight the extent to which it will be possible to walk around in the new sim, and hint at how vast the game is going to be.

Any support is massively appreciated!

as an australian, the words “good internet connection” are a little soul destroying.

If my sofa is the wrong colour in the game I'll be annoyed.

I really, REALLY hope they have a 2 player in 1 plane option for multiplayer.

my house is in FS2020 already but my entire city looks like its been taken over by an unusually aggressive forest

Not so bothered by the install size - but PLEASE get it to the Main menu/home screen quicker.... No point in loading all sorts of libraries/textures upfront if all I want to do is change some config settings and restart the program. I would be quite happy to do the waiting after I click the "Fly" button... 🤷‍♂

I hope they have a mission that is a reversal of a Forza Horizon trope. Instead of having a player driving a car in a race against a plane, you are now flying a plane/blimp/hot air balloon against a sports car.

As you said, not having an offline mode will really suck for people without good internet. 2020’s photogrammetry was unplayable when I didn’t have a good connection; I’ve only been able to enjoy it for the first time recently.

If the majority of the resources are on the cloud, I think it’d be awesome if we could download custom areas we want to fly in like how you can download offline maps on a phone.

I have definitely not been this excited for a version of MSFS...well, ever.

I couldn’t care less about wild life, walking around the airplane and flying over my own house.
Give us proper weather, ATC and IFR/VFR traffic

flight sim 2026 is going to simulate hunger, delays, fights with co workers, relationship trouble from always working, economic trouble from decreasing pay and rising inflation

While these all sound nice, they really are going to need to improve the streaming and performance of the software, for both Windows and consoles.

Expectation - Better cockpit and flight model accuracy.
Realisation - Guy in a pink suit.

All the bells and whistles look great, but untimately it's a flight simulator and the emphasis should be on the accuracy of the aircraft handling.

They really need to take VR and dynamic foveated rendering seriously.

Install size will be less than half of 2020.

Me, someone with bad internet: nice!

more of the sim will be on the cloud

Me: Oh ...

Being heavily server based is a worry, ignoring internet drop outs; what happens when they turn the server off?

I like perpetual ownership, not effectively a limited time license

I like to fly through clouds, not based on them.

Here’s what I think would be cool. Imagine starting out on foot, in the parking lot of a small GA airfield. You walk through the gate and onto the tarmac, where a bush plane awaits you. You pull off the dust cover, remove the various plugs and covers, check the fluids, wiggle the control surfaces, and generally inspect the plane to verify that everyhing is as it should be. You then get in the plane, start it up, taxi to the runway, and take off, headed out into the mountains. You spy a suitable clearing and land the plane. You retrieve your camping gear from the baggage compartment and set up camp. You watch the sun set and turn in for the night, and exit the sim. The next morning you start the sim again and resume your previous session—you’re still at your campsite. You pack everything up, check the plane again, and start it up, taking off from the clearing and flying back to the airfield. There, you land, park the plane, and finish your little bush flight/camping trip. About as close to the real experience as you can get sitting in front of a screen.

Similar scenarios apply to other kinds of flying. The super detailed airports have a purpose if you, as an airline pilot, walk through them to get to your aircraft, rather than just spawning in the cockpit and immediately starting the aircraft and taking to the skies.

Down the road it would be cool to see this as the basis of broader simulations that include aviation and other things. Imagine a forest fire fighting sim where you could be a pilot, but you could also choose to be a smoke jumper, or maybe drive a bulldozer to clear out firebreaks.

I really hope this means that in the next version (after 2024) they’ll be able to make it even more of a “world sim”.
Add drivable cars, trains, and boats.
