When locals tell me that there are no fish in their waters and I somehow get permission to fish there, I do exactly that and usually catch well. Most of the time this “no fish here” is simply a deterrent for foreign anglers. I usually release their fish back into the water unless they are too badly injured.

Bluefin Trevally s considered a good food fish. It has dense, white, slightly oily meat that's tasty and pairs well with many dishes. However, some say that eating large bluefin trevally can cause ciguatera poisoning. Ciguatera toxin has been found in bluefin trevally, especially fish larger than 50 cm. In Hawaii, there are bag and size limit restrictions on bluefin trevally.
