*This video was recorded prior to Peter departing on his backpacking trip in July.

Guyana is a country we don't hear about too often, but its rise as an oil producer has earned it some air time. In particular, we'll be looking at the implications this carries for global oil markets.

I hope Guyana consults with Norway on setting up a sovereign wealth fund so that the money is used for the benefit of the people is a wise way.

As a US Army Engineer officer, I trained with some Guyanese soldiers. They gave me a great impression of their people and their country. This development makes me very happy for them.

The financial media usually talk about the "oil market" as if it were monolithic. Good job breaking it down.

it's incredibly amazing how hiking alone in the wilderness helps understand global politics.

Venezuela's threatening military rhetoric towards Guyana was quickly silenced by the recent deployment of a US aircraft carrier.

Great brief for energy interests: well done again.
Locals call it Guy-ana, not Ghee-ana, and it makes really good rum, lots of rice, still has bauxite and gold, and has a land route connecting the Amazon waterways to the edge of the Caribbean.

As a European, I would much rather pour money into South America than Russia or the Middle East.

I have been traveling to Trinidad since 2017. Every time there are many Guyana bound petroleum technicians on the plane.

At $80 per barrel that would gross about $49, 000 per citizen per year. I wonder how much revenue will go to Guyana's government in royalties and how much of that will percolate down to its citizens.

Isn't it fascinating how inter-woven the way that Energy Policy, Economics, and Geopolitics are. We are in a great big Global Market where things that happen in one small country, can affect Economies and big policies like warfare, etc.. on the opposite side of the world. While I disagree with Peter on many things, I really appreciate how he can tie together these complex and nuanced subjects in a way that helps make them more understandable to us "little people"..
Good Video - Thanks for this Peter.

The fact that Guyana is capable of conecting the Amazonian region with the Atlantic and the Caribbean makes it a strategic partner for Brazil in the near future.

That's good also for french Guyana, as oil / gas super expensive there, mainly coming from France

Thanks for the great geopolitical news analysis. Unlike the news, you always give us all the domino effect of current events.

Guyana did matter before oil was discovered. It is a significant producer of bauxite, the primary ore for aluminum.

They really should consult Norway how to do it right.

IT's not just technology but labor. A friend who was in Siberian with Baker Hughes told me that the wells that were being drilled by Russian crews with the same gear as Canadian crews were 1/7th to 1/10th as productive.

Maduro held a referendum formally annexing Esequibo (sp?) and then someone pointed out that there is a jungle between them without any roads. So Maduro made up his mind to go _around_ the Jungle since the oil is actually offshore ...
Then someone told him that their most modern warship tried to interdict a cruise ship and lost. The warship was sunk in the encounter. _It was _*_sunk_*_ by an unarmed _*_cruise ship._* Maduro then imagined pitting his air force and Navy against _one_ Arleigh Burke and ...
As of this posting Venezuela was starting to brag about a burgeoning maritime drone fleet, so we haven't heard the last of this but it might look more like Maduro trying to terrorize oil platforms and tankers than carry out an actual invasion.
Don't worry, we won't be hearing much about it _after_ he tries that ...

Ny grandfather said that some of the Permain basin crude was light enough to use in a model T Ford. He also said that it would burn the valves in a short time.
