Alpha Phase One

Today sees the release (to Alpha backers) of the first phase of the Alpha process of Elite: Dangerous. Phase one - 'Single Player Combat' will be the first hands-on experience for gamers of Elite: Dangerous.

Elite: Dangerous is the latest installment of the seminal Elite gaming franchise and has garnered huge support from over 40,000 fans of Elite who have supported development of the game so far with both funding and feedback.

Backers who pledged for access to the Alpha release will experience different Alpha phases over the coming months, providing early access to Elite: Dangerous while it is being developed and the opportunity to give invaluable, focused feedback to Frontier and help further shape the game.

The aim of Phase One - 'Single Player Combat' is to test key aspects of ship control and combat systems. Piloting a Sidewinder with varying weapon configurations, players progress through 8 single player scenarios -- initially designed to familiarize players with the controls, gradually increasing in difficulty and complexity.

I had a good time playing Elite on Acorn Electron and was pretty high up in the ranks, but never finished it due to changing to MSX. Hope this release will be as captivating.

Omg this looks three times as good as i thought it would look.
I mean, i would happily accept the game the way it looked in the kickstarter videos, it's about gameplay not graphics.
But HOT DIGGIDY DAMN, i'll even more happily accept this!
Looks like Star Citizen, no joke. Same quality.
Maybe even better, since Star Citizen doesn't actually HAVE this stage of the game playable yet.

Elite: Dangerous beta backers will be able to access a combat build of the game as of Tuesday, July 29th. Anyone who preorders the multiplayer beta and anyone who backs the game prior to July 29th will be able to download and play this single player module on its day of release. The multiplayer beta is currently priced at $75 USD.
