Wonder what the logic was for the spirals at the top of the poles? Maybe rainwater run down wouldn't rust/weaken the support poles?

I love the old service stations. Looks like you could live there if you wanted, the space behind the showroom was probably storage that could be a bedroom. Was that a newer repair shop next door?
