Danil is a talented guy, he won in that season of "The Voice. Kids". He belongs to descendants of Cossacks, and he sang a patriotic song from his culture, that was about risk, war, hope and freedom. This culture is very popular in our country, and nearly all pop singers have Cossack songs in their repertoir.
Cossacks were free farmers who lived along the borders of the Russian Empire and guarded them. All farmers belonged to landlords or the Emperor, they could be bought and sold (until 1861), soldiers served far away from their families for 20 years. But Cossacks had farms and lived with their families, being part of the army and risking their lives every day, especially in Caucasus. In times when farmers were owned, families could escape from landlords, reach the border and become a part of Cossack community (and also have salary, not just a farm). The police never asked to give the newcomers back to landlords, 'cause they understood how important guarding borders was.
