I hope everyone is being safe! I recently watched with awe at the announcement of the XT4 how many said it having a flippy monitor was a "dealbreaker". I couldn't wrap my mind around this. Who wouldn't love a flippy monitor? Well, one group in particular: mostly photographers. In a poll with over 400 respondents, 18% said tilty was more usable than flippy, which to me sounds CRAZY. My guess is most of them are not videographers, so...with this in mind, Im asking for your help with a new poll:

Flippy screen is much more efficient for street photography. Fully articulated screen is not only slower, but also means the size of the camera is doubled in width, which is a deal breaker for me.

I am a photographer and I prefer a fully articulating screen that offers protection for the screen when not in use. Avoids scratches and accidental damage.

I'm a photographer, not videographer and for me the tilty screen is better (I've used both). I do primarily street photography and it's much more discreet to be able to tilt the screen up without it going off to the side. Also, as a street photographer, 1 second makes the difference between getting the shot, or not. I don't believe I'll move on to the XT4 from the XT3, but not sure what I'll do in the future. The world is of camera's is moving towards the videography side.

I am a photographer. Tilt . I am fed up of camera manufacturers leaning towards videographers for you tubers .

Off topic.
Who is the troll that gave the down vote within the first 10min of the video being up. How can you give a down vote when the dude is just asking for community feedback?

I am shocked to hear that anybody prefers a flippy screen to a fully articulated one. One of the key features of Canon's screens is that I can protect the screen surface by turning it to face the camera body. I have an EOS R and use its EVF primarily but when I need to use the screen it's always clean and scratch free. The only downside that I've ever heard before is that the screen and your subject don't line up, they're slightly offset from one another but that doesn't bother me at all. Thanks, Michael.

Pro cameras are all about less button presses, fumbling to get the job done. Tilty screen gives you that. Full articulation takes atleast 3 steps to get where you want it.

Its like going to quick menu to change a setting vs using a custom button you have set for it.

I’m a photographer and I always tend to shoot from an angle where nobody does in order to be different. I’ve used both kind of screens and I’ve noticed tilt is more useful most of the times. I shoot a lot of photojournalism and music concerts/ candid/people reactions. I can do the same with flip screen but it requires a 2nd step most of the times. But for video I think a flip screen is more versatile since you don’t have to shoot vertically most of the time.

Great video, as are all of your videos. I’m one of those ‘crazy’ primarily stills photographers who has literally just purchased the Fuji X-T3 over the X-T4, the absolute dealbreaker being the X-T3’s WONDERFUL and unique landscape/portrait tilting screen. I do a lot of street photography and the first thing I want is to be discrete, and the last thing I want is a flag sticking out of the side of the camera alerting everyone to the fact that I’m taking their picture. And you’re right about what you said in the Nikon D500 and the Fuji x-T2 shootout video, the Fuji cameras absolutely are pieces of art. It’s bordering on obscene how often I’ve subjected my X-T3 and X100F to loving fondling that my Nikon cameras are never subjected to!

Fully articulated screen for me doing almost just stills. Unfortunately my favorite camera does not do this.

I’ve done only still photography, and have used Canon’s fully articulated screen routinely. Great for shooting low while looking down instead of getting on your belly. Great for shooting down over a crowd, while holding the camera over your head and looking up. Great for shooting braced against a tree or a wall, giving the camera a POV you can’t face. I do a lot of abstracts straight down, standing back at arm’s length with the screen looking sideways at me. Great for cradling the camera at waist level to hand-hold in low light, looking straight down at the camera. The only problem I’ve had is that sometimes the particular composition that catches my eye—as I wander around—goes away when I try to take advantage of changing the POV with the flip screen. Also, of course, it’s safer to flip the screen against the body to protect it in transport.

Late in finding this thread. I'm a photographer and having tried both I wouldn't be without a flip screen. It allows me to take pictures from positions and angles that just wouldn't be possible with a tilt screen alone. I guess it depend on the shooting you do. Anything that requires a low or high vantage point for the camera and where I can't get myself into the right position, but the camera can be positioned there, its a win.

I've been using a 'FLIP' one for over a decade and just can't do without. It's a big influence when considering a new purchase. I've been interested in some newer cameras but when I notice it has either a fixed or tilt monitor, it turns me off and I move to the next camera with flip instead. Being a nature and wildlife photographer, I can get every possible angle for difficult shots where it's impossible to see with the naked eye. I highly recommend it to everyone.

I think you need to distinguish between kinds of tilt screens. I LOVE the tilt screen on the Fuji X-H1. I also love that all of the info rotates on the screen. Hopefully, Nikon adopts this on the Z8 or whatever is next from them. As you might guess I shoot no video. It’s hard to use the flippy screen in portrait orientation on a tripod with a Hoodman.

I've used both for photography and video and I prefer the flip-up. It's good high and low shots.

Funny how people have complained about Fuji XT1, 2 and 3 not having a fully articulating screen and now that they’ve finally done it, people still complain.

I do 99% photography, I don't really care.
BUT: I bring up a related question you could ask another time: Camera-Body size.
Youtubers and professionals tend to favor bigger camera bodies. The majority of buyers are neither Youtubers nor professionals. Speaking for myself: I do all kinds of photography, always outdoors. I need to carry the camera where ever I go and I am glad to have a small, lightweight camera. It is FF because I also use it a lot at night or in dim light. Dispite Youtubers asking for larger more comfy bodies, I hope the next models won't be bigger and heavier! And I know most of my friends think the same.

I've had both. More stills than video. The flippy screens often block the ports you need as a videographer and they create a larger footprint (if you're at a concert and holding up your flippy screen camera expect to get shouted at). But they do twist in and protect themselves and help with portrait orientated photos.
Tilty's main advantage is a smaller profile more than speed for me.
Both have their place but only the SH1 and a few Fujis have come close to the proper hybrid screen.

I never planned to be a photographer, just take pictures and videos of my wife and me during our vacations, 'flippy' is the way to go for me.

I have a 6D mark ii with the full articulated screen. With it being a touchscreen I use it for stills positioned out to the side to keep my face or nose from hitting it.
