UConn vs UCF: Geno Auriemma: 'I'm not sure how we won that game, but we did' | UConn Post Game | SNY

In this UConn vs UCF post game news conference, UConn head coach Geno Auriemma said UConn got what it expected against UCF, a grinding, ugly game. It isn't how he envisioned Connecticut basketball being played, saying "You'll probably look back and say, I'm not sure how we won that game, but we did." The Huskies 52-47 win over UCF marked their 28th consecutive trip to the Sweet 16. While there were several aggressive loose ball battles, Auriemma thought his team showed real toughness by making big shots and free throws down the stretch. Clearly though, the coach knows the team will have to be a lot better when they face Indiana on Saturday.

Geno’s resume speaks for itself he doesn’t need coachin advice from random people on the internet lmao

BTW, shame on UCF head coach (& players) who didn't so much as look in Geno's or CD's direction after the game, let alone handshake and congratulations? Just left the court like poor sports & sore losers. I know, they're 0-16 against Uconn but that's no excuse.

UCF head coach did her young players no favors by not congratulating the winning team, despite a great effort on their part. Sports should in part build character. Had UCF won, would their team walked off the court?

One of the worst coaching jobs I have ever seen. Not only did he sit Caroline and Mica for the entire 2nd half, but he also did not put them in when two of his bigs fouled out???? how also, inside one minute to play and he draws up 2 (not 1) 3 point attempts by Paige (who is not even close to being back....maybe 60% max). That gave UCF two more chances we did not need to give them. Without Mica and Caroline picking up the team after Paige went down, this team does not even make the dance. Where is your brain Geno....I don't care how many games you have won....in this game YOU stunk!!

WHY DIDNT THE REPORTER ASK THE OBVIOUS QUESTION ? WHY DIDNT DUCHARME PLAY ?! WHY DID WE GET AWAY FROM OUR DOMINANT 9 PLAYER ROTATION ?! IF GENO PULLS THIS STUNT NEXT GAME WHERE HE ONLY PLAYS 5-6 PLAYERS WE WILL LOSE !

GET MUHL AND DUCHARME BACK IN THE ROTATION

Regarding previous comments questioning Geno....I'm going out a very short distance on this limb....Coach Auriemma, being privy to voluminous & crucial team/player information about which we fans can have no clue, having forgotten more about basketball than virtually any of us will ever know, and as someone who stands alone as the most successful coach in the history of the game, has more than earned our deference, trust & RESPECT!!!

The missed layups is just amazing. Carolina missed two absolute bunnies that she would make 99 times out of a hundred. Dorka and Edwards missed 5 between them. I thought Azzi had good looks time after time and she passed. But they won and they showed great grit. I think other teams noted UCONN can play any kind of game you want to play.

New motto for this team. "Everyone eats, except Caroline and Nika."

What a sorry show of sportsmanship on the UCF coach and team.
Just walking off the floor without any acknowledgement or hand
slaps to the UConn team.

They're not the blowout team that they use to be. They're winning games by inches.

If you watched the game, and have any coaching experience, this was a terrible game to watch if you are a Uconn fan. Missing layups.. at D1 level, like they did in this game was awful. The last quarter Uconn left the middle of the key open for drives and shots.. probably because all their experienced bigs fouled out. Fouls shots saved their bacon.. both the one's they made and the ones the other team missed. These women can play better than that, even in rough games. Lets hope they find their Mojo again.

It was an ugly game, no doubt. But, if you're going to have a game like that, where everything seems out of sync, and survive, I have a feeling it's not such a bad thing to have it in the second round and it just may be what they need to regroup and play the next round like they're capable of, i.e. Uconn Championship Basketball.

To all US UConn fans out there: Some of us saying they won't beat a specific team (if they even get that far), regardless of which team and when. Others are saying UConn can still win the national championship. I am saying nothing because THIS IS A "JEKYLL AND HYDE TEAM". Plain and simple. Anyone that watched the first 3 periods of the UConn-South Carolina game, and almost ANY other 3 or 4 UConn games this season has experienced the full range of possibilities. At times, the potential of a 12th national championship; Other times, it's "What the f@&# are y'all doing?". Sometimes, that range is all within the same half. It is what it is. Know this, UConn is not alone. That crap fest South Carolina just played vs Miami this past weekend? Louisville and NC State (especially if Cunane gets into foul trouble, which she is prone to do) are not overly impressive . Nevertheless, all that is too far ahead. Next up is Indiana. One game at a time. You never know. The team(s) some people are concerned about playing may not even be still in the tournament if and when the time comes. Go UConn!!!

My takeaways:
Paige isn't back.
Don't understand Geno's player rotation.
How do 6'-4" and 6'-5" players miss open lay ups time and time again.
Lack of game awareness. How do you not clear the ball out after getting a rebound following a missed shot with a 3 point lead and only about 39 seconds in the game?
Lousy help. If 3 players trap, it means 2 players are left to guard 4.
They have players in foul trouble relatively early, yet you end up having 2 foul out but none of theirs?
Defense won the game. If they win, it will be because of their defense. As good as I've seen in years.

You arm chair quarterbacks need to watch the game over again not the highlights. UFC 😂 deserves more credit to the chaos nearly all of the Huskies we're thrown off their game including the bench. Like Mike Tyson says everyone has a plan untill they get punched in the nose personally I love the new 9 rotation but Geno made a decision and stick with it, besides once the subs came in "look at the tape some looked befuddled by the pressure and full court press a WIn is a Win period... Let's move on and win this thing. One last comment, " Geno had an interesting comment before the game he said if UFC 😂 could shoot with their defence they would win every game !

Goes down as one of the ugliest games I’ve ever watched. It was a street fight and we came out on top. All that matters

I think this team has set a record for missed layups this year. 😖 As well as this team shoots overall, missing gimme layups will end their season prematurely if they can’t get over these yips!
I anticipate we will see the old, unstoppable Paige Beckers for the rest of this tournament. The crazy crowd, closeness of this game, plus the choppiness of this game all combined to reignite Paige’s fire that has been missing since her return, she’s done being timid. Watch out, NCAAW! Here she comes!!!

Liv as usual failed in a big game once again. Even fouled out...Along with Aaliyah. Too many missed will need to play better going forward if they advance to the finals four..NC state is a great team.. Go huskies.
