Our Presenter this month is Mark Thomas Apache Tomcat Committer who will be giving us a Preview of Tomcat 9.

Development of the next major release of Tomcat 9 is well underway with significant improvements to TLS support, basic support for HTTP/2 and a host of other improvements. In addition, Tomcat 9 will support the new JavaEE 8 specifications including the possible inclusion of Reactive Streams support in Servlet 4.0. This presentation will provide an overview of what these new features and enhancements mean for users of Tomcat and provide an insight into the current roadmap for Tomcat 9 development.

Here is Mark introducing himself in his own words.

I have been an Apache Tomcat committer since November 2003. I initially worked on Tomcat in my free time but since August 2008 I have been employed by Pivotal (formerly SpringSource). I spend most of my time on Tomcat but I also work on tc Server, Pivotal's Servlet & JSP container based on Tomcat. Additionally, I lead the Pivotal security team.
I am the Tomcat 8 release manager and I try to release every month. I am currently focused on Tomcat 9 development which will support Servlet 4.0 (including HTTP/2) and is expected to also include updated JSP, EL and WebSocket support (I am a member of the relevant JCP expert groups). Elsewhere at the ASF, I am a member of the ASF security and infrastructure teams and I am on the Commons PMC where I focus on Commons Pool and DBCP. I am a member of the ASF.
