as a former model, it's very true what you said about filtering yourself but this is not only a problem with experienced this with photographers who are in the field for decades.

Your thoughts on how to filter yourself to get the best out of others goes beyond photography. People should apply that practice to all parts of their life. Great video.

Thanks Miguel! Good stuff.
I think my OCD keeps me from outsourcing...I like to control every aspect. Also... Until I start making more money doing this I'll need to do it myself. My location also keeps me from charging enough to validate outsourcing.

Luckily, I am my own worst critic, so I am always trying to get better every day!

Great tips, my biggest challenge is still lighting. What I see is sometimes not what I think I saw.

Miguel, i like you a lot...but in US to be successful you have to choose always amazing models....and people will admire you for that . I never seen a youtuber from US that is known with "regular" people portraits...in Europe is about the story, the feeling, a message....

Gonna direct some of my students right here to your channel. I think they can learn a lot here.

"Adopt a student mindset" to me is very important as my learning style best fits the mentor/apprentice model. Question: I've thought about approaching a working photographer to ask if he/she would be open to having an assistant who would be paid with free learning by watching. Is that a reasonable thing to ask? I'm also going to apply to work for a studio that does school photographs and things like HS senior portraits, etc so I can learn studio and lighting techniques. Does that make sense? Thanks for your input.

I can agree with most you said, but one topic seems a bit off to me. You're talking about outsourcing, but that's maybe something a newbie shouldn't do at all (please keep the title of your video in mind here). Apart from someone being new(ish)) and not having the funding to outsourcing to begin with, it is important to know the entire process. Not just clicking that button and then handing it off to someone else. Even if you turn out not to be great at editing and the whole process that takes place after you transfer the footage to a computer, it is still valuable to spend some time to know what actually goes on. It can give you more insight in what was good about your footage, but more important, what needs improvement or what you shouldn't do at all. Yes, it takes time to dive into it, ... but knowledge is a valuable investment.
