working under pressure = Giving you 2x the workload for one employee

I've tried both, 15 yrs as a team member and 9 yrs solo, all that in the service industry and here is my conclusion; I'll never work in a team again because my output, productivity and progress are at least double when solo. Being a fierce self critique I hold myself to very high standards which pays off well in both monetary and satisfactory terms. I suppose that last drop for me was when I've been awarded employee of the year twice in a row and still wasn't given the sought after promotion. So that me realize that I'll never get anything based on merit unless working on my own. I build my own dream and I don't want to work for others to build theirs. Dreams wary, but to work alone by yourself you need discipline and ambition and the rest is a piece of cake.

Remote. No office politics bullshit. No undermining. Just pure data, output, and efficiency. If tracking shows slack, boot them.

Im one of those IT team people that after 20 years of the office environment has transitioned to the solo/home office life. I'm still able to remotely work with people but enjoy the solidarity of being away from the office "noise". I think it's easier for a team oriented person to transition to solo life than the other away around.

Depends on the type of business, some a team/office environment works well, others, from my personal experience, as a system engineer for a telecommunications company, I really prefer WFH, productivity sores, people work harder, there is still a digital social element in place, via chat/calls. Speaking for a lot of them, they do prefer WFH, more time with the family, less wasted time and money for commuting. We have the ability to, 5 months+ has shown us it is feasible and more than do-able.

Working remotely is not working alone. You still interact with lot of people. In fact more people virtually than you do in person. The video portrays people who likes to be alone are the ones needing remote work. We have come far from that in remote work culture and technologies are so much better now to support it.

Disagree. There are companies also out there who operate entirely remotely as in they aren't tethered to a specific office location. They do 'their portion of the work" remotely and then depending on the objective and results, they'll either meet in person at a location that is typically a vacation for many or they just talk about it over the internet. It can be done, I've seen Gen Z teams absolutely kill it and it's usually the older generations that struggle more by the oldest generation descending down to the youngest before being at Gen-Z.

What I'm getting at Pat is you can have a balance of both worlds because that ultimately is the best fit for many. 100% remote is limited as you say with output as a solo person, but with teams that are extremely tech-savvy, can problem solve on the fly, it's actually better for them in that aspect. For people like yourself, you need to be in person because that is how you grew up. That's all.

Been working from home for 3 years now there's no way I go back to the office lol, I work 80 hours a week on a laptop so I don't have to work 40 with people. 😆 But Pat definitely makes some valid points.

I respectfully disagree. I've been working from home for 4 years now. It's really easy for me to motivate myself. It's also really easy for me to be collaborative with teammates, through Microsoft Teams, IM, email, etc. I get more work done at home. Going to the office means needless office gossip.

Working from home isn't necessarily solo. I work from home on projects that involve a bunch of people. We aren't together in one place but our projects are still group projects. Our success isn't based on just our individual selves.

I work from home. We video chat with each other, so it's not totally solo.

How the fuck did we get tricked into getting forced to be “family”? I ain’t gotta fucking like you to work with you. The worst jobs I’ve had were when everyone were too cool with each other.

If an employer wants me in the office when everything i work on is remote anyway than that is a trust issue.

that's like saying you can't get attached to a sports team just watching them on TV. This is 2021 bruh, people are having deeper virtual than physical connections.

So basically it makes sense to see each other occasionally IF you have a team. Does not invalidate working from home 90% of the time

Depends on the type of work you do, this is just a very traditional way of thinking, As a developer i am just as productive at home, as i am in the office. Only difference is i can bang my music out loud and do it in my i dont have to pretend to look busy at home....

My experience in IT has been that WFH is more efficient.

Working 100% remotely as a developer I have created the best friendships of my life.

It all depends on the work culture. From personal experience, the typical office setting can have a really stressful and uncomfortable atmosphere to it from cubicles facing away from windows to tech equipment sound. During unprecedented times, people want to be home because it provides a sense of safety and comfort. However, there are workers who are extremely sociable and have that team oriented mentality. If workers have positions that are able to work from home, then they should have the option to do so but it shouldn’t be a requirement. For such flexible work from home positions, it all comes down to the individual worker.
