Andrew demonstrates how he flush sets a round stone. This is just a demonstration. He will be producing a more detailed film next time explaining why he is doing what he is doing.

Any questions about flush setting then please comment below and Andrew will do his best to answer them in the next film.

This is a film topic suggested by a subscriber to Andrew's At The Bench YouTube channel for him to show and demonstrate whilst in lockdown.

Please reach out to him by what ever means you can and ask him some questions that he can make films about. It may be something simple or just a thought but please reach out to him so he can make some content for us all to keep us entertained over the next few months.

Thank you so much, I learned so much from your detailed and informative tutorials videos. I was in the class for metalsmithing more than a year now. Your expertise and knowledge helped me and others watching your tutorials videos 😊

Thanks Andrew, this is great. I've never set a stone in this way before, so a break down of all the tools/bits/burrs you have by your side would be handy.

In the next video, could you show how (the best/safest method) to get the set stone back out a piece? Thanks in advance and thanks for this video. :)

Love your new filming room! It looks beautiful! A small suggestion, add somewhere in the room some textiles (hang curtains) or a rug etc it will help dampen the echoing of your voice in the room and absorb and soften some of those sounds. Cheers!

Hi Andrew,
Is there a formula or rule of thumb for the thickness (or gauge) of the metal plate compared to the height of the stone from table to culet? Can you demonstrate how to measure the height of the stone properly? The timing of this video is brilliant because I've wanted to try flush setting.

Could you do a video on polishing the silver so we don't mark or scratch the stone.
Many thanks.

Is there a guide explaining what gauge/thickness of sheet should be used for different sized stones? What do you recommend?

thank you Andrew! please, if in your next video you can explain the rationale to pick the correct height of the metal plate according to the stone you are going to flush in, I'll be grateful! is there an absolute minimum for it?

Would this tutorial for the flush setting be OK for a dome shape ring, or would I be better to flush the dome a little.
Great tutorial.
