Translational failure: a case study
In this video I argue that a major reason for translational failure is poor quality animal research such as blinding and randomization using the case study of the therapeutic NXY059. Then I explain how to blind and randomize effectively and some of the difficulties in blinding and randomization.

Learning objectives

Explain Malcolm Macleod's research into NXY059 preclinical research and what this means in the context of translational failure.
Explain at what points in the experiment should the experimenter be blinded and what method of blinding should be perform.
Explain at what points in the experiment should randomization occur and how to randomize.
Explain how blinding can be very difficult and what should be done in these situations.

Very interesting thank you. Do you have any books or courses you'd recommend to get a solid grip on understanding how experiments are set up? I want to be able to evaluate nutritional research papers. Thanks!
