The Willy Wonker of Gammarus fly patterns. A great looking Gammarus/Scud pattern that is not only extremely easy to tie, but also a deadly pattern for both fresh and salt water.

For me, after 30 years back to fly fishing, the use of ÚV-resin is a revolution. Thanks for showing this great pattern.

I love the Ostrich herl going on the hook with the rotary function Barry, it is almost therapeutic. I am watching the epoxy going on and I have decided I must try this style. I have always sort of thought they would be more trouble than they were worth but as usual you take the difficult out of the equation most times. One of your great followers recently said that he couldn't expect to follow you because you were a jeweler who meticulously built your flies etc. He meant well and obviously holds you in high esteem, but I would like to add to that observation.
I believe that you have worked diligently to develop tying techniques that take the mystery and a lot of the difficulty out of at least some of the process for producing good fishable flies.
I would like to thank you for the work you have done, I believe you have made me a better tyer because I am tying things with new techniques thanks to you. I hope all of your followers feel the same way. You and Davie have both helped me to be a better, maybe a braver tyer. Thank you so much Barry, you graciously answer my questions and put up with my Dad humour. If there is anything I can ever send you that you can't get there please ask I owe you a favor or two. Anyone who reads this!! If you have not purchased Barry's latest book, your life is lacking! Buy it, a great deal of information for a very good price indeed!

Very nice Barry! Scuds are a main forage for the panfish in the lakes I fish, have a box devoted to Gammarus patterns - will have to add this one to it! Thanks for posting it! Hank

Of course, I like all your work, Barry. This one makes a particular argument for synthetic material. It is very effective. Here, particularly, on spring creeks with lots of cress growth. It is possible to create very lifelike Gammarus with natural materials. The truth is, this is simply superior in fish attraction. Also, it’s an all-day fly with a little touch on the hook point from time to time.

Another excellent scud pattern Barry and extremely well tied. I am looking forward to trying a few of these in the seas around Shetland.

Hi Barry - just purchased your book and looking forward to it. May I ask what kind (or brand) of color marker you use to color on the resin around the 6:22 mark in the video? Thanks!

I just bought my first uv light and resin. The resin is loon flow. I tried tying this fly and it looked great. The problem I had was the resin soaked into the ostrich herl, making the fibers stiff after curing. Maybe I should purchase a thicker resin.
My vise is a Regal, which doesn't rotate so I have to flip the hook upside down by hand. I'll keep trying.

Hey Barry, well done, I love the look of this fly. I'm assuming that these ride hook up with the weight of the resin on the back. What was the brand of resin and where do you find it? Cheers

Another awesome fly. There are lots of resin + torch deals on ebay for about £10-£15. Are these OK or do you need to get the expensive stuff like Gulff etc?
