The mats decided that withstanding prop wash from an osprey was beyond their job descriptions

Cool video. Thanks. An Osprey (Reg 11-0060) flew over my house at 1800ft recently. I'm a Brit Army vet and very familiar with the distinctive sound of Chinooks and Apaches but the sheer noise of this thing at 1800ft was something to behold - it seems much louder, even though the Chinook is twin rotor too.

I've been a Flight Nurse Practitioner on both a military Blackhawk and a New Jersey State Police AW139 medical helicopter for 30 years. I have NEVER seen someone stupid enough to try temporary anti-skid coatings or devices on a helipad. In ANY country.

The Osprey is well known (or infamous) for their massive downwash. It can even destroy barracks or other simpler buildings.

Build a proper helipad out of concrete and not yoga mats and this won't happen 😉

Looks to me more like the downwinds/wash from the rotors blew away some loose rubber pads that had been laid on the ground in a field used as an improvised helipad.

Shows how much we invest in UK compared to US. US develop the Osprey; in the UK some mats not even archored = helipad. You guys should see our roads!

I know an osprey would have a significantly stronger downwash than a eurocopter etc. However some of the search and rescue helicopters could land here which would be about the same therefore the area should be designed for this. Potentially very dangerous
