What is it about giant pandas? Whatever it is, they're very easy to love. They're also very thin on the ground. There are only about 1600 left in the wild, making the panda the world's most elusive and endangered creatures. But there is some hope. In the foothills of the Himalayas in the far west of China, there's a haven where pandas are thriving. Not only that, they're producing lots of baby bears. It's the kind of IVF program for pandas, who are notoriously half-hearted about sex. And we'll be doing our bit to help save the panda. In 2009, two of them were preparing for a new life in Australia, at Adelaide Zoo.

For over forty years, 60 Minutes have been telling Australians the world’s greatest stories. Tales that changed history, our nation and our lives. Reporters Liz Hayes, Tom Steinfort, Tara Brown, Nick McKenzie and Amelia Adams look past the headlines because there is always a bigger picture. Sundays are for 60 Minutes.

I was struck by how gentle, gracious and charming each of the keepers are, particularly the Chinese female veterinarian.

How about making their enclosure much more forest like. Lots of bedding, possibly heated concrete.

Yall gotta know this documantary was made long time ago like literally 2009. And if you watch the korean tv show sbs they put pandas in the same kinda room too, they do that when pandas are gonna give birth and after a while they move them back. They're not mistreating the pandas, instead yall should be going after america with their recent case of abuse against pandas, ppl are demanding them to send the pandas back to china for proper care. This documantary, is also a pretty old one like i said, you stay updated not with old infos

This episode aired in 2009, it's almost embarrassing to watch in 2023.

Listening to comments like I'd rather see pandas become extinct was so disheartening. What hope have we got when there is literally no pandas left in the world? Yes it was concrete floor and mother panda were being monitored 24 hours a day, at least little ones are born safely. I am sure the condition will improve when more research are carried out and more funding are put in the breeding program. I also could not understand the logic behind comparing cows with pandas. Cows are not extinct therefore do not require strict monitoring. Very happy for Australian scientists to take a strong interest in panda conservation.

An animal raised in captivity for so long is too dependent on humans . They can't look after themselves.

Surprise me, this panda is a cage does it should be in big sprawling yard for them to move around? in this case their movement is stricted .

Every Chinese panda I’ve ever seen on TV or video is housed in a what looks like a jail! Can’t they house them in something that’s less harsh?
