FAO Dominique Burgeon on Global Report on Food Crises 2020 edition

2020 edition of The Global Report on Food Crises released today ( 21 April) says that even before the COVID-19 pandemic began to impact food systems, food security, and the livelihoods of vulnerable people, over 135 million of the world’s most vulnerable communities were trapped in food crises and struggling with severe acute food insecurity.

They are at great risk from the dangerous knock-on effects of the pandemic, and the international community will need to scale up their efforts and deliver to prevent them from sliding into worse conditions.

The 2020 edition of annual report, the Global Report on Food Crises, published by the Global Network against Food Crises, also provides an analysis of the drivers that are contributing to food crises across the globe, and examines how the COVID-19 pandemic might contribute to their perpetuation or deterioration.
